Our Story

Igniting the Oven

Madibanani was established in 2012 as a collaborative effort with Children of the Forest Orphanage in Sangkhlaburi, Thailand to improve the lives of children refugees from Burma (Myanmar).  The initiative began as a way to engage communities in Minnesota with discrimination against refugee children abroad. It quickly grew into an incorporated social enterprise bringing awareness to kitchen tables in America and financial provision to children overseas. Outreach has expanded to include Baan Manaam in Khon Kaen, Thailand, The Mamelodi Initiatve in South Africa, and The Academy for Women's Empowerment in Minneapolis--all with the united mission to advocate for youth engagement in social justice.

Meet the Founder

Hello! Welcome to Madibanani.

My name is Madi and baking banana bread has long since been my therapy (hence the name, madi-banani ). At age 15, I grew increasingly agitated with discrimination against children whose disadvantaged circumstances were no fault of their own and decided to do something about it: thus Madibanani was born. My huge thank you to donors, family, friends, advisors and YOU for the support. Happy munching!
